Sonia Sarmiento Cabello

I enjoy understanding evolutionary processes through genome characterization. During my Master’s thesis, I studied genome-wide selection, genetic architecture, and inbreeding in brown trout. My goal was to gain insights into current fish breeding practices and the genetic consequences of selective forces acting on captive-bred juvenile fish.

Currently, I work as a researcher for the Goudet group. Here I phase and impute polymorphisms on low-coverage sequencing data from more than 3,000 barn owls. My work will help the understanding of the barn owl genetic architecture, inbreeding, and population dynamics, as well as reconstruct the samples’ pedigree.
