Dr. Laura A. Nájera Cortazar

I am an evolutionary biologist that works with animals, molecular ecology and conservation. I have a mixed background combining a lot of fieldwork, lab and bioinformatic work. For my PhD, I worked understanding the species boundaries and ecological genomics of Myotis bats in northwestern Mexico using high-throughput sequencing. In addition to this, I also investigated the taxonomic identity of bats ectoparasites along the same region. I learned how amazing is the parasite world and I wanted to pursuit a new adventure related to them. Currently, I am doing a postdoc in Christe’s group, investigating the lineage community composition of avian malarian parasites in the great tit (Parus major), using high-throughput sequencing.
