European Research Council (ERC)

Horizon prizes

EIC Horizon Prize for "Early Warning for Epidemics" (Epidemics-EICPrize-2020)
The challenge is to develop a scalable, reliable and cost-effective early warning system prototype to forecast and monitor vector-borne diseases in order to contribute to the prevention of outbreaks mitigating their impact on local, regional and global scales and providing support to existing elimination efforts.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)

MSCA are open to all domains of research and innovation, from basic research to market take-up and innovation services. As mobility is a key element in all MSCA, researchers only receive funding if they move from one country to another.

    Deadline: September 9th, 2020 (17:00h, Swiss time)
    Online Applicants’ trainings in July 2020, only for researchers applying with a host institution located in Switzerland
  • Co-funding of regional, national and international programmes (MSCA-COFUND-2020)

Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI)

The IMI is funded jointly by the European Commission and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations. The IMI2 programme (2014-2020) comes from health-related research and innovation challenge of Horizon 2020. The last call (IMI2 - Call 23) includes 6 topics:

  1. Returning clinical trial data to study participants within a GDPR compliant and approved ethical framework
  2. Modelling the impact of monoclonal antibodies and vaccines on the reduction of antimicrobial resistance
  3. A platform for accelerating biomarker discovery and validation to support therapeutics development for neurodegenerative diseases
  4. Optimal treatment for patients with solid tumours in Europe through artificial intelligence
  5. Shortening the path to rare disease diagnosis by using new born genetic screening and digital technologies
  6. Behavioural model of factors affecting patient adherence

Deadlines: September 29th, 2020 (short proposal, 17:00h, Swiss time) and March 17th, 2021 (full proposal, 17:00h, Swiss time)

Future and Emerging Technologies (FET)

FET supports collaborative research in order to accelerate development of the most promising emerging areas of science and technology.

PRACE Fast Track Call for Proposals

Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) is welcoming project proposals requesting computing resources to contribute to the mitigation of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This applies, without being exhaustive, to the following topics: molecular biology, bioinformatics, epidemiology, etc. Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS) is a partner.

Switzerland is fully associated to Horizon 2020 (factsheet)
Participants from CH institutions must apply for all Horizon 2020 and Euratom calls as participants from an associated country and request their funding from the European Commission.
