Professor Despina Mavromati

Despina Mavromati, an attorney at the Lausanne office of BianchiSchwald, is a renowned expert in international sports law and arbitration. She has experience as counsel, consultant and expert witness in many high-profile sports arbitrations and sports-related disciplinary, governance, contractual and doping-related matters.

Professor Mavromati is an arbitrator and Member of the UEFA Appeals Body, the Disciplinary Tribunal of World Athletics and the Doping Hearing Panel of the International Powerlifting Federation. She served as the Chair of the Ethics and Disciplinary Commission of the International Weightlifting Federation and was a Managing Counsel at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, where she was responsible for the drafting of legal opinions, mediation proceedings, the scrutinizing of CAS awards and the appeals to the Swiss Federal Tribunal.

Professor Mavromati teaches sports arbitration and sports contracts as a member of the Faculty of Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration at the University of Lausanne and has authored "The Code of the Court of Arbitration for Sport: Commentary, Cases and Materials" (with M. Reeb, Wolters Kluwer, 2015). She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), an LL.M. and an M.B.A. from the University of Saarbrücken (Germany) and a law degree from the Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki (Greece). She was a Visiting Scholar at the Fletcher School for Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University (USA).
