Jessica is a chemist, holding a BSc and MSc (2017) in Chemistry from Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia). She applied NMR-based metabolomics to study the origins of Colombia’s coffee and the effects of processing (i.e. roasting) on coffee's chemistry, under the supervision of Prof. Julien Wist. Jessica also gained the additional experience in LC-MS and NMR-based metabolomics during the short-term internships in the Phenome Center at the Imperial College London (in 2015 under supervision of Prof. Elaine Holmes) and at Weizmann Institute (in 2018 under supervision of Prof. Lucio Frydman).
She joined our research group in December 2018 for her PhD project, to study the age-related sexual dimorphism in lipid metabolism in the helathy subgroup of Lausanne population (CoLaus), performed in collaboration with the clinical consortium at CHUV (Prof. Peter Vollenweider). She is currently optimizing the LC-MS-based methods for quantitative lipidomics - to be applied to population profiling.
