Asking for an accreditation

If you organize, or if you attend,  a course/symposium, you may ask for an recognition of continuous education in animal experimentation

Only veterinarian cantonal authorities recognize, or not, a course as continuous education in animal experimentation. Swiss Association of Cantonal Veterinarians (ASVC/VSKT) make recommendations, or not,  for recognition as continuous education in animal experimentation to all swiss cantonal veterinarian authorities.

Criteria for recognition

To be accepted, content of symposia or workshop must be linked with

  • Application of 3R principle (reduction, refinement & replacement) in specific domain and animal welfare
  • New animal model caracterization and gain of knowledge on existing animal model
  • Laboratory animal sciences (improvement of housing conditions, anesthesia procedure, analgesia, sampling procedures, surgical procedures,..)

Gain of scientific knowledge "per se" is not a criteria of recognition

To remember: 1 hour seminar is accredited as 1 hour continuing education. For 1 half-day duration must be at least 3 hours; for 1 day, duration must be at least 6 hours. In Geneva, in case of in-house seminars, cantonal authorities ask to have a duration of 4 hours to get 1 half-day and 8 hours to get 1 day of continuous education

Contents of courses or symposia in relation with animal experimentation are evaluated according to ordinance on education in the field of housing and care of animals -  455.109.1.
