Cette prestigieuse récompense souligne le travail de ces deux équipes pour lequel Katrin Fuchs (UNIGE) et Pierre Bize (CHUV) ont mis au point un nouveau concept thérapeutique des tumeurs du foie par la combinaison d'une embolisation à visée ischémique associée au relargage local d'une drogue anti-angiogènique, qui empêche la cellule cancéreuse de se nourrir.
Cette collaboration, étendue en Europe, aux USA et au Japon, a fait l'objet d'une demande de brevet par nos deux Institutions. Elle est actuellement en phase de délivrance aux USA et en Europe.
