5th edition of the CHIC: Discover the four connected device projects
The 5th edition of the China Hardware Innovation Camp (CHIC) got started in October of 2018 with four new innovative projects, including two in the medical field. The various teams – made up of students from HEC Lausanne (University of Lausanne), EPFL and ECAL – are currently working on perfecting the outlines of their respective projects with the aim of producing the prototype of their connected devices next summer in China.

Twenty-six projects involving researchers from HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne were selected for grant funding in 2018. The total support will amount to over CHF 20 million, spread over several months or years, and will enable the researchers to create teams while working on their projects. This funding recognizes the excellence of the scientific research carried out at HEC Lausanne.

Filippo Cavallari, who was awarded a PhD in Information Systems by HEC Lausanne (UNIL) in 2018, has recently been given the Paul Bernays Award. This is the fourth time in eight years that one of the School’s recent PhD graduates has won the award, demonstrating the excellence of its research in the field.

Professor Solange Ghernaouti, from HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne, was listed among the top 100 Digital Shapers 2018 on September 27. This “who’s who” of digital Switzerland lists the 100 most important Swiss citizens in the digitization field. HEC Lausanne congratulates Prof. Ghernaouti on her inclusion in the ranking.

The 4th China Hardware Innovation Camp (CHIC) educational project began almost a year ago and the various teams – made up of students from HEC Lausanne (UNIL), EPFL and ECAL – flew to China in July. Their aim was to produce prototypes of the connected objects they had already worked on together. The public will have the opportunity to find out more at the ECAL DemoDay on 28 September. A look back at the highlights of the trip to China and the various lessons our students learned.

Follow the 4th CHIC: connected objects
The fourth China Hardware Innovation Camp (CHIC) learning program started up in October 2017. As part of it, the teams of students from HEC Lausanne (University of Lausanne), EPFL, and ECAL will produce the connected objects they have designed in China. The first three CHIC camps led to projects with social, medical and sustainable components. This year, the focus is on fun and practicality, with objects enabling increased interactions between parents and children, optimized monitoring of groups of children on trips, and improved concentration at work.
