UNIL joined the CIVIS European University Alliance in 2022.

CIVIS is a multicultural and multilingual European university formed by the alliance of eleven leading higher education institutions across Europe. It is committed to building a unique inter-university campus for over 500,000 students, teachers, researchers and administrative staff by offering innovative and responsible teaching, research, cultural exchange and civic action across Europe and Africa.

The Alliance aims to address the major societal challenges of the 21st century by focusing on five areas:

The Mediterranean region and Africa are at the heart of CIVIS' global strategy. In 2022, an ambitious partnership agreement was signed with six prestigious African universities:
