Who are we?

Goals

The goal of the Théodore Lagonico Foundation is to grant one or several fellowships to cover, in part or in full:

  • the cost of graduate studies at the University of Lausanne, in Switzerland, for students of Greek nationality
  • the research costs for a Greek researcher to study at the University of Lausanne
  • the cost of graduate studies or the research costs for a Swiss student or researcher at the University of Lausanne working in a field related to Greece

History

Created in March 1973 by Mr. Théodore Jean Lagonico, the Théodore Lagonico Foundation offers one or more fellowships each year to contribute to the graduate study costs or research costs of doctoral students enrolled at the University of Lausanne.
 
The grant(s) are meant for students or researchers of Swiss nationality interested in Greece or Greek students/ researchers who wish to study in Switzerland.
 
Requirements:
The student(s) or researcher(s) enrolled at the University of Lausanne will follow classes or conduct research in Classical Studies, mainly Greek archeology, Greek history, or Ancient Greek literature. Greek student(s) or researcher(s) must hold a Master’s Degree, and enroll at the University of Lausanne or become affiliated as visiting scholars with the University’s Institute of Archeology and Classical Sciences.

Founder

Théodore Jean Lagonico was born in Alexandria in 1887 and then studied at Trinity College in Oxford, where he received a Master of Arts degree.
 
He settled in Lausanne in 1939, where he lived until his death in 1981.
 
He was a lifelong patron of literature, music, and the arts.
