Language of instruction
Starting in September 2023, HEC Lausanne introduces French-English bilingualism in its Bachelor’s programs. Students will have the choice of taking courses in French, English or a mix of the two languages.

At Master’s level, courses are mainly taught in English.

Language requirements
Exchange students are not required to pass any official test language. A minimum level of B2 according to the « Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” is required in French and/or English depending on the language of instruction of the course attended by the student.

UNIL IT resources
A personal laptop computer is strongly recommended.

Teaching outside HEC (other UNIL faculties, language courses, EPFL)

UNIL
During your exchange, you are allowed to take courses in another faculty of UNIL, provided that the faculty authorizes this. Most courses must be taken at HEC Lausanne, the main faculty where the student is enrolled.

At the start of your exchange, you must then register directly for the courses and exams with the faculty or school concerned and ask them for an official transcript.

EPFL (not on HEC lists)
A limited number of courses are also open at EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne). You must register directly to the EPFL department concerned at the start of each semester.

Please check the registration deadline at EPFL which is earlier than UNIL (Friday of the second week of the semester).

More information, Guichet des étudiant∙e∙s de l’EPFL

If you need a transcript of records, please ask it at the EPFL directly.

Overlapping exam dates
The dates of non-HEC exams are not scheduled by HEC Lausanne. Therefore, there is a risk of overlapping between the dates of HEC exams and non-HEC exams.

The exam dates set by HEC Lausanne cannot be changed under any circumstances. One solution is, for example, to take an exam at the retake session.
