Species identification

What is this about?

Genetic identification of species from biological samples and derived products.

Why perform these analyses?

These analyses allow:

  • The identification of biological traces collected during a poaching investigation (wildlife illegal traffic)

    • Determine the specific origin of a biological sample (tissue, hair, feather, skin, egg, derived product) detected during a customs or police control.

    • Determine the specific origin of a blood spot or a biological fragment collected in the field or on a support (textile, blade, metal, plastics, stone), and consequently link a suspect with a wildlife crime.

  • The identification of biological traces collected during a human forensic investigation

    • Determine the specific origin of a biological sample (hair, saliva, scat, fluids, vegetal material) collected during a forensic investigation.
