Swiss Day – Lausanne 2023

Lausanne prevails at the Swiss Day Pre-Moot, and also takes home second-best place for Individual Oralist

On Saturday 18 February, the University of Lausanne has had the pleasure to once again host the Swiss Day, a preparatory event in the context of the 30th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot), the world’s largest arbitration moot and second-largest moot overall. The Swiss Day is the perfect opportunity for members of all participating Swiss teams to hone their skills for the finals held the week before Easter in Vienna, where all participating teams take part.

After three intense rounds against the teams of Bern, St. Gallen and Basel, the University of Lausanne won first place with an average score of 88.44 points. The teams of Lucerne and Basel won second and third place, respectively. Team Lausanne has previously won the Swiss Day 2020 in Lucerne. In addition, LL.M. student Derek Heath from team Lausanne was the second-best oralist overall, surpassed only by Ms. Tsagaanlkham Badamkhand of team Basel. Luca Rinaldo of team Lucerne was third.

This edition of the Swiss Day was the first held in-person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and was only possible thanks to the generous support of Homburger. Additionally, the organiser, Jonas Zaugg, would like to thank IDHEAP, SV Group and Brasserie du Château for hosting us, as well as all staff present on the day of the event. Lastly, the Lausanne team would like to thank and congratulate all students, coaches and arbitrators who attended the event and made it a roaring success!

The team from the University of Lausanne participating in the 30th Vis Moot is composed of:

Ms. Hai Nhu Pham, Ms. Tamara Khovrina, Ms. Carmen Stetter and Mr. Derek Heath

The team is supervised by Prof. Andrea Bonomi and coached by Mr. Jonas Zaugg.
