Article 2 sets out its objectives.

The University Management:
a) Supports women's careers by promoting favourable working conditions and measures to support the next generation of women

b) Aims to eliminate all forms of direct or indirect discrimination on the grounds of sex, sexual orientation or gender identity

c) Aims to achieve equitable gender representation at all levels and promote the advancement of women in the academic staff and at the management and decision-making positions

d) Promotes the balance between education or work and family life by providing support to parents and caregivers

Directive 0.16. Recognition of Gender Identity: Use of the Common First Name and Change of Polite Formula for Trans* Persons at UNIL

Adopted by Management on January 21, 2020, Directive 0.16 (PDF, in French) allows people who do not identify with the sex assigned at birth to progress more serenely in their studies or professional careers.

In concrete terms, students, doctoral students and professors can obtain a change of their customary first name and forms of courtesy on the usual UNIL documents, such as the campus card, course lists, the internal directory, registration or admission certificates. Data on MyUnil (except pay slips) and e-mail address are also concerned.

Diplomas, certificates of credit acquisition or employment contracts and other professional certificates, on the other hand, always require an official change of identity at the registry office. What is new, however, is that they can be changed retroactively if necessary

Rectorate Directive 1.3. concerning Professor Recruitment

Adopted in 2005 and last amended in 2021, this Directive (PDF, in French) contains provisions concerning equality in the recruitment of professors.

In particular, it stipulates that the deanship shall ensure the representation of women in the composition of each recruitment committee and shall justify, where appropriate, their absence among the representatives of the professors.

This directive also stipulates that, in all cases, a delegate from the Equal Opportunities Office may attend the committee's meetings, without the right to vote. This delegate, who has access to all the documents available to the committee, is mandated to draw the attention of its members to the rules of equal treatment and is subject to a strict obligation of confidentiality. If it considers it necessary, the Equal Opportunities Office may draw up a report on the conduct of a recruitment procedure for the attention of the Rectorate, which will take it into account when validating proposals for appointments.

In addition, according to the Directive, the Equal Opportunities Office is responsible for the statistical monitoring of recruitment of professors.
