History

A bit of history

The Department of Computational Biology (DBC) was built by reshaping the former Department of Medical Genetics (DGM), created in 2005 by  Prof. Jacques Beckmann, a renown human geneticists who recognised early on the importance of computational and analytic strength for Medical Genetics.

The DGM was initially comprised of a small number of research groups les respectively by Profs. Sven Bergmann, Roman Chrast and Dr. Carlo Rivolta, whose research activities centered, among others, around collaborations with clinicians from the CHUV and elsewhere.

At the time of the creation of the DBC, the DGM had three research groups (Bergmann, Cirello and Rivolta).
