Biosafety

The use of genetically modified, pathogenic or alien organisms is subject to notification or authorization (according to the OUC). Other regulations apply to the use of biological agents:

• Ordinance on Protection of Employees from Dangerous Microorganisms (OPTM, only available in french),
• Ordinance of the EAER on Dangerous and Arduous Working Conditions in Pregnancy and Maternity (OPROMA, only available in french),
• Ordinance of the EAER on Dangerous Working Conditions for Young People (Ordinance Young people, only available in french),
• Ordinance on Protection against Major Accidents (OPAM).

The BSO is responsible for the management of biosafety in his or her department, including ECOGEN notifications.

The BSO must be trained in biosafety. He/she can follow the training courses offered by Curriculum Biosafety which provides trainings for level 1 and level 2 (depending on the activities carried out in the department).
