The duration of studies leading to the award of the PhD degree in Actuarial Science is three to five years, full-time study. It involves a long course of study dedicated to research, the results of which will be presented in a thesis.

The first part of the PhD studies includes the study of the fundamentals linked to the specific fields of interest of the future research. In this part the participation to various seminars as well as the International Summer School makes sure that the PhD candidates get a broad knowledge of the various current topics and state-of-the-art research in all fields of Actuarial Science. Specific training and activities are defined by the PhD supervisor.

While in the first part typically a first research paper is drafted, the second part is devoted to research and the preparation of the dissertation in the chosen field. At the same time, yearly participation in the Summer School, participation in the seminars, and the presentation of the own research in actuarial seminars is mandatory. This part culminates in the submission and defense of the dissertation.
