I am a doctoral student currently researching the literary phenomenon of ‘new nature writing’ in Britain. My thesis looks at notions of hybridity and border crossings, and questions how these might translate into writing about the natural world in the Anthropocene era. I am interested in how such writing can blur boundaries between nature and culture in order to offer alternative ways of knowing and thinking about nature which challenge the dualisms which have often framed the way we think about the non-human world. Furthermore, I consider how this writing might open up crucial dialogues within the greater environmental consciousness and thus offer timely and urgent narratives for our current state of international ecological crisis.
