My research interests situate at the intersection of the interdisciplinary fields of language, gender, sexuality and (mental) health. I apply qualitative and quantitative tools from sociolinguistics (corpus-assisted discourse analysis and ethnography) to explore how people who suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) use language to make sense of their mental health and construct their identities by drawing on normative ideologies of gender and sexuality. I have also collaborated on a project that explored the role of metonymy in how far-right anti-genderist groups used language in online petitions to discuss feminist and LGBT+ groups as threats to the heteronormative social order.
