Solidarity with Ukraine

The University of Lausanne is worried and follows with sadness the development of the events taking place in Ukraine. A war in the heart of Europe can only touch us deeply and UNIL adheres to the position of the Federal Council, which condemns the Russian military intervention in the strongest terms.

UNIL expresses its solidarity with the Ukrainian scientific, academic and student communities in the dramatic circumstances that the country is currently experiencing. Our university joins the position of the European University Association and swissuniversities. The latter calls on "European governments to take immediate measures to protect the lives and careers of Ukrainian academics, students, researchers and civil society actors, as well as the entire Ukrainian population."

Access to research and knowledge are the foundation of UNIL's values and guide its action in favour of democracy, peace and the defence of human rights. Unfortunately, this war will have serious consequences for education and research in Ukraine. UNIL is therefore committed to doing its utmost to help and support researchers and students from higher education institutions in this country, notably through the Scholars at Risk network of which UNIL is a member.
